Extract from The VENTNOR TIMES 21st July 1866

SERIOUS ACCIDENT
On Sunday afternoon a gentleman named Austin went with a companion to the cliffs between Shanklin and Luccomb. . . . . . . . and slipped over the edge. It was some time before the news reached Shanklin but when it did so SHRAPNEL, surgeon at once proceeded with a carriage to the spot. . . . . . . .Mr Shrapnel attended him with great assiduity and the invalid is now completely out of danger.
