WILLIAM FISHER SHRAPNELL (1788 - 1870)

There were three WILLIAM FISHER SHRAPNELLs and two RICHARD HEIRON SHRAPNELLs in this group. They were the descendants of the extremely affluent clothiers of Trowbridge. The eight children of the second WILLIAM FISHER SHRAPNELL (1788 - 1870) included:
RICHARD HEIRON SHRAPNELL (1813 - 1887)
SAMUEL REDDISH SHRAPNELL (1823 - 1898)
GEORGE JONES SHRAPNELL (1830 - ? )
ELIJAH JONES SHRAPNELL (1826 - 1906)
ELIZABETH SHRAPNELL (1820s - 1850s)
The first of those, RICHARD (an auctioneer of Hilperton, Trowbridge, the seat of the family) produced 6 children through his marriage to MARY BILLINGS of Bristol. Several of those children together with their uncle SAMUEL REDDISH SHRAPNELL for many years (until 1908) ran a number of retail businesses in and around the College Green area of Bristol. There are no descendants of the name from that line.
However, three others of WILLIAM FISHER SHRAPNELL's children, GEORGE, ELIJAH and ELIZABETH went to Canada and ultimately America. The family line continues in Michigan, U.S.A.
