PHILIP SHRAPNELL (1841 - 1924)
PHILIP was born in Liverpool the son of JAMES LASBURY SHRAPNELL and MARY WADE who were oil merchants there after they moved from Bradford-on-Avon, the family seat. PHILIP was an enigmatic character who survived three marriages and ten children. He must have been an entrepreneurial character, at one time a teacher of gymnastics. Then with the help of his son LEONARD ROSIER SHRAPNELL he toured the country with a highly acclaimed illuminated water fountain display which the local press took much to heart. Three of his children provide the base for today's descendants. These are: JAMES LATHAM SHRAPNELL (1873 - 1936) HUBERT PHILIP JOHN SHRAPNELL (1901 - 1960) EDWARD HECTOR SHRAPNELL (1903 - 1968) The first two provide two separate branches in Australia who are, of course, 2nd or 3rd cousins, etc, as the case may be. The third EDWARD provides a U.K. BRANCH IN THE FEMALE LINE.
